ALI-ABA and ALI CLE: A History
In 1947, the American Bar Association (ABA) and the American Law Institute (ALI)* formed the American Law Institute-American Bar Association Committee on Continuing Professional Education (ALI-ABA). For over 70 years ALI-ABA provided thousands of legal seminars and publications to lawyers across the country, and became known for its extensive programming across a wide variety of practice areas. In 2012, the ABA and ALI decided to move forward separately in their CLE education efforts. And the nationally recognized expert faculty and abundant intellectual content of ALI-ABA was absorbed into ALI CLE. Today, ALI CLE maintains the ALI-ABA tradition of excellence, but with a new generation of offerings and technology platforms to meet the educational needs of the 21st century lawyer.
